Yesterday, Rich, Mason, Mom, Dad and I went to the Qwest Center in Omaha to watch the Olympic Swim Team Trials. The event is to decide which athletes go to represent the US in Beijing. In the preliminary heats we saw two world records set in the women’s 100 meter backstroke! McGregory held the record for less than five minutes before Natalie Coughlin took it back in the next heat! Amazing! So exciting to see events like this in the Midwest!
I noticed that the swimming trials were being held in Omaha and I couldnt believe it. Omaha is moving up in the sporting world. The College Baseball World Series has been held in Omaha for years and it is a great event.
I didn’t get to see the prelims, or any world records set, but the night session was amazing!!
There were several heats that were neck to neck, one of them were 4 men in a dead heat. There was also a women’s race that required a swim-off for the tied 8th place. That required a race that was decided within .02 of a second. Talk about evenly matched!
What a great experience. I didn’t get to see a world record set, even though I saw saw above pace splits. I wish I could have. Still, watching them announce the next Olympian was a breathtaking moment.
